Born in Rome, Alessandro Carletti studied photography and painting. He discovered his passion for lighting design at an early age and began his career at Teatro Eliseo on productions directed by Carmelo Bene.In the late 1990s, he started working at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. He works regularly with director Damiano Michieletto. Notable productions include Il Trittico at Theater an der Wien, Don Carlo at the Vienna State Opera, Un ballo in maschera at La Scala in Milan, Rigoletto at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam and at La Fenice in Venice, Alcina at the Salzburg Festival, and Aida at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.He also collaborates frequently with Barrie Kosky on productions such as Semele, Candide, La Bohème, Turandot, and Dialogues of the Carmelites. Other projects include Joan of Arc with Lotte de Beer, Nabucco with ricci/forte, Lucrezia Borgia with Silvia Paoli, Rigoletto in collaboration with John Turturro, and Bluebeard’s Castle / Il Tabarro with Johannes Erath. He won the Knight of Illumination Award in 2015 for Guillaume Tell, a production at the Royal Opera House in London.At the Paris National Opera: Samson et Dalila, 2016; Don Pasquale, 2018; Don Quichotte, 2024.
